Hanging Love Heart

Drape this fun garland around your bedroom, bathroom or living room to add a splash of colour and brighten up your summer days.

Celebrate the summer by bringing the seaside indoors with Lynne Rowe's fun garland. Drape it around your home to add a splash of colour and brighten up your rooms. Each motif only uses a tiny amount of yarn so it's great for using up your leftovers.

Stitches used:

double crochet(dc)

half treble (htr)

treble (tr)

double treble(dtr)

slip stitch (sl st)

Fish



Make two in orange yarn and one in white yarn Using 5mm hook and chosen yarn make 7ch,work back along ch as folls:

Miss first ch next to hook, 1dtr into next ch, 1htr in next ch, 1tr in each of next two ch, 3dtr in next ch, 4tr into last ch, turn, work back along opposite side of ch as folls:

3dtr in next ch, 1tr in next two ch, 1htr in next ch, 1dc in next ch, (4ch, miss first ch next to hook, 1dc in next ch, 1htr in next ch, 1tr in next ch, sl st into same st at base of 4ch) twice

Cut yarn and fasten off. Note: there will be a small hole at base of tail. Stitch closed if desired Sew in ends.

Add an eye in contrast yarn

Starfish

make two Using 5mm hook and turquoise yarn make a magic loop, work 15dc into loop, pull tight to close Make 5ch, work back along ch as folls: (miss first ch next to hook, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr in each of next two ch, miss next two sts, sl st into next st) five times Cut yarn and pull through st on hook, sew in ends.

To make up

Using 5mm hook and pink yarn make 40ch, insert hook into top st of fish, yoh, pull through st and loop on hook, make 20ch, insert hook into top st of starfish, yoh, pull through st and loop on hook, cont in this way until all motifs are joined, make 40ch, fasten off. Sew ends into ch.

Knitted Bangles

Rather than spend lots on jewellery, I bought these bangles from a charity shop and decided to give them a revamp!

If you've got bracelets at the back of your drawers that you don't wear any more, why not give them a new lease of life with Amanda Berry's easy covered bangles? You only need to use knit and purl stitches and these make a much more interesting first project than a scarf! For tips on adjusting the size to fit your bracelets, see the Knit Clever panel.

Stitches used:

knit (k)

purl (p)

Bangle



Using 4mm needles and turquoise yarn cast on 25 sts

Row 1: p6, (k1, p1) six times, k1, p6

Row 2: k6, (k1, p1) six times, k7

Rep Rows 1-2 until work meas desired length Cast off.

Using 5mm hook and white yarn, with RS facing, join anywhere around edge of mask with a sl st

Rnd 1: 1ch, work dc evenly around entire edge, join with a sl st to join rnd

Rnd 2: (8ch, sl st into same sp, sl st into next two sps) five times, 8ch, sl st into same sp, sl st into next sp, tie off.

Rnd 2: (2ch, one sl st into base of 2ch, one sl st into next two dc) to end, join with a sl st to first 2ch

Fasten off

to make up



Sew cast-on and cast-off edges tog to make a circle. Place bangle inside knitted piece and sew two long edges tog using mattress st to enclose jewellery in knitting

Crochet is the perfect medium for pretty frills, as demonstrated by Lucinda Ganderton's adorable booties. They are made in one piece, reducing the hassle of having to put separate socks and shoes on a wriggly baby. Practise making trebles, half trebles and double crochet in this interesting design.

Stitches used:

chain (ch)

double crochet (dc)

Using 5mm hook and pink yarn make 14ch Rnd 1: 4tr in fourth ch from hook, 1tr in each of next nine sts, 5tr in last st, 1dc in base of next nine sts, sl st to third ch Rnd 2: 3ch, 1tr in same tr, (2tr in next tr) four times, 1dc in each of next nine tr, (2tr in next tr) five times, 1tr in each of next nine sts, sl st to third ch Rnds 3-4: 3ch, (1tr in next tr) to end, sl st to third ch

instep

Using 5mm hook and white yarn make 7ch Row 1: 1tr in fourth ch from hook, 1tr in each of next two sts, 5tr in last st, 1tr in base of next four sts Fasten off, join pink yarn to third ch at beg of Row 1 Row 2: 3ch, 1tr in each of next three tr, 2tr in each of next five tr, 1tr in each of next three tr, 1tr in third ch Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tapestry needle onto yarn. Join instep to sole as folls: Match centre front of instep to one end of sole. Pin in place and oversew two pieces tog, inserting needle through all four loops at top of adjacent sts.

lace trim

Using 5mm hook and white yarn make 23ch, sl st to first ch Next rnd: (4ch, miss one ch, 1dc in 1ch) to end Fasten off, leaving a long tail, slip lace over sock so join is at centre back and ch lies at base of final round of htr, pin in place and sl st lace to sock

ankle strap

Using 5mm hook and pink yarn make 14ch Row 1: 1htr in third ch from hook, (1htr in next ch) to end Fasten off, leaving a long end Stitch strap across front of instep. Note: reverse direction for second bootie
